Learn how to transcribe and subtitle your Zoom meetings using Scriptme.io and then publish them on YouTube.
As more and more organizations are transitioning towards remote working environments and doing remote business, video conferencing software has become an important part of our everyday working lives. Zoom has emerged as one of the most popular and effective tools for this, with useful features like video recording.
However, recording the minutes and key talking points of a video conference can be a challenge. Also, what if you want to add subtitles and distribute the video so that you can accessibly share the video within or outside your organization? Or what about transcribing and taking notes on autopilot?

How to transcribe and subtitle your Zoom meetings:
- While you’re in a Zoom meeting, click the “Record” button at any point to start recording the meeting:
- To stop the recording at any point, press the “Stop Recording” icon. Note that Zoom will only process and save your recording when you end the Zoom meeting:
- End the Zoom meeting by clicking the red “End” button in the bottom right corner:
- Zoom will automatically convert your recording and then save it to your computer. These are the default location for Zoom recordings:
- “C:Users[User_Name]DocumentsZoom” on Windows
- “/Users/[Username]/Documents/Zoom” on Mac
- Log in to your Scriptme.io dashboard. Then, click the “Upload file” to upload your Zoom recording to Scriptme.io for processing:
- You’ll see the Upload File popup box. You can either drag and drop the recording from your computer into the upload field or click the “Browse File” button and find it using the File Explorer:
- Next, make sure that the correct file is listed in the Upload File dialogue. Then select the correct original language from the drop-down and set the “Action” field to “Transcription.” Once your settings look like this, click the “Finish” button to upload the file:
- You can then track the progress of your file in the dashboard under “Status.” The file will go through uploading, preparing, and, finally, transcribing:
- When it’s done, it will look like the image below. You can then view your transcription by clicking the “See transcription” button:
That will take you through to the Transcription Edit page where you can edit and adjust the settings of your transcription. We’ve prepared a guide on how you can use this page here.
- Next, we’ll generate subtitles from this transcription file. To do this, just click the “Convert to subtitles” button:
- You will be presented with a couple of settings for your subtitles. You can leave them as is or adjust them to your preferences. When you’re ready to continue, just click “Convert”:
Now, you’ll see the Subtitle Edit Page. Once again, we’ve prepared a guide for you with step-by-step instructions on how to use this to customize your subtitles.
- From here, we can proceed to export a video of your recording with the subtitles included. To do this, just click the “Export” button:
- In the popup box, click the upper “Export” button:
- Scriptme.io will now begin to process your video file with the new subtitles. You can now safely click the “Okay” button and continue to work on your transcriptions/subtitles or close the browser. Scriptme.io will notify you by email when the file is complete:
- The process should only take a few minutes. When you see the following email in your inbox, just click the “Download video” button to proceed:
- Here, you can preview the video with the subtitles one last time before downloading it to your computer. When you’re ready, click the “Download” button to start the download:
- Now log in to your YouTube account. Click the video recorder icon in the top right corner and then click “Upload Video” from the dropdown:
- You can now drag and drop the file into the upload area or click the “SELECT FILES” button to search for it using the file explorer:
- Next, you’ll be taken through the YouTube upload wizard to adjust some final settings before uploading and publishing your video. Continue by clicking “NEXT” in the bottom right corner and commit your video by clicking “
- Wait a few moments for YouTube to upload your video. Once it’s done, you’ll be able to watch and share your Zoom recording video with subtitles on the YouTube platform:
How to upload a .SRT subtitle file to a YouTube video
Instead of uploading a video with embedded subtitles, you can upload an unsubtitled video accompanied by a separate subtitle file. This gives viewers the option of enabling/disabling subtitles according to their needs or preferences.

To upload an .SRT file to your YouTube video:
- Upload a YouTube video in the usual way by clicking the video recorder icon and searching for the file on your computer:
- Scroll down under the details tab to the “Language and captions certification settings” and choose the video language from the dropdown:
- Click “Next” to proceed to the “Video elements” tab. Click “ADD” next in the “Add subtitles” field:
- In the popup box, click “Upload file” to browse for the .SRT file and upload it to YouTube:
- You will see your full subtitle text to the left. YouTube provides some controls here in order to edit and sync your subtitles with the video. When you’re satisfied, click “DONE” in the top right corner:
- Continue through the remaining steps to save and publish your YouTube video. When you play the video, you’ll see the “CC” icon on the control bar with the option to toggle subtitles on and off:
